In the United States, there are at least five hundred thousand infants affected by cerebral palsy. The disorder arrives during the early months of pregnancy when a child is still growing in the womb. In a survey carried out in 2003, the Center for Disease Control stated that an infant affected by cerebral palsy will need upwards of $950,000 dollars throughout his life for support and treatment. People affected with this disorder need the care that requires financial commitment and aid.

Cerebral palsy is a disorder that causes a low or non-coordination of muscle movement in accordance with messages sent by the brain. This poor reaction, or non-reaction of the muscles is because of brain damage sustained by someone during the early stages in his life. When a person has the condition he cannot correctly move his limbs in the normal way.

Cerebral is the medical term employed to refer to the working of the brain. Its an adjective after the noun cerebrum, the part of the brain that is responsible for motion, feelings, speech, sight and other senses and actions needed for everyday human activity. When the cerebra, is impaired for any reason, the motion capabilities of most muscle groups are seriously affected.

Palsy is a term that signifies disorder in the posture of a human, or the movements someones body makes. Due to the fact that the brain is damaged, palsy may or may not occur.

There are various types or levels of cerebral palsy, which are signified by the intensity of the damage caused in the brain and the manifestation of the condition. There are basic signs of cerebral palsy that are common to all levels, and don't always correspond to the severity of the damage in the brain.

When a person has cerebral palsy, he may experience problems in keeping his balance and coordinating his limbs. He will experience problems with drinking, eating, and standing, for example, because of this lack of control. Someone with cerebral palsy might also be epileptic. Studies showed that 1 out of 3 CP affected persons are epileptic. As one might suspect, someone suffering from Cerebral palsy may experience difficulty in learning.

The four categories of Cerebral palsy are Spastic (CP 2) , Athetoid/dyskenetic (CP 3), Ataxic (CP4) and Mixed CP.

The first 3 forms are different according to the area of damage in the brain and the severity of it. The fourth class is the most severe, which is when someone experiences two to three categories at the same time.

Cerebral palsy is not reversible and incurable, but there are therapies to help people affected to regain some measure of control and coordination.
